A swapword is a compound word where the first and last parts can be swapped to make a new word. Both words must be whole or hyphenated, not phrases. There are surprisingly few.

  1. takeover ~ overtake
  2. offset ~ set-off
  3. gunshot ~ shotgun
  4. long-life ~ lifelong
  5. boathouse ~ houseboat
  6. outlook ~ lookout
  7. fall-back ~ backfall
  8. takeout ~ outtake
  9. phonecard ~ cardphone
  10. line-out ~ outline
  11. schoolday ~ day-school
  12. turnover ~ overturn
  13. layout ~ outlay
  14. setback ~ backset
  15. uptake ~ take-up
  16. sleepover ~ oversleep
  17. punch-card ~ cardpunch
  18. breakout ~ outbreak
  19. outwith ~ without
  20. upset ~ set-up
