If somebody were to ask me if I would like to go bungee jumping or sky diving, I would say no. Uh-uh. No way. I am terrified of heights. I hate flying. I don’t climb ladders. I even get dizzy looking out a fifth story window. So it is safe to say that bungee jumping and sky diving are not my idea of fun. If someone were to hold a gun to my head and make me choose, though, I would probably choose Sky Diving.
There is a logical reason for this, I swear. Two actually – both of which have to do with numbers. First of all, with sky diving, you jump, you fall, you land (hopefully in one piece) and it’s all over. With bungee jumping on the other hand, you jump, you fall, you bounce, you fall again, you bounce again, you fall again…you get the picture. If I really must fall, I’d rather limit it to just the once, thank you very much. The other reason has to do with the number of people. Generally speaking, bungee jumping is a solo activity – there may be spectators, but the jump itself is usually done alone. Contrast this with sky diving which is often done in tandem with an experienced instructor – much more comforting (did I mention I’m afraid of heights?).
Also, to be frank, I put much more faith in my instructor and our parachute than in any bungee cord. I don’t know why.
Having said all that, however, the question is moot. I never intend to go sky diving or bungee jumping. What about you? Have you done either of these things? Would you?
