30 Day Book Challenge Day 4:

Book Turned Into a Movie and Completely Desecrated

hp_half_blood_princeWarning: Contains Spoilers!

I definitely did not need to look far for an answer to this question.  I have seen loads of book-based movies that completely sucked but the one that annoyed me the most in recent years is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. For some reason, the director of this film seemed to place too much emphasis on the budding romances between Ron & Hermione and Harry & Ginny, to the detriment of other, more important aspects of the plot.

It is in this book that Harry learns more about himself and Voldemort and the relationship between them. It is also in this book that Harry learns about the horcruxes. Unfortunately, while the film does cover this to some extent, it seems to me to be rushed, as though the director really didn’t care about this aspect of the story, but had no choice but to include it.

There was so much information in the book that is omitted from the film – information that I found both interesting and vital to my understanding of the story. I do not know why this information was not included in the movie – time constraints perhaps. I do feel as though this book would have easily made two very enjoyable movies, as did the final novel.

Overall, while I generally enjoy the Harry Potter movies, I found this particular film to be  disappointing, at the very least.
