Author I Wish People Would Read More
In general, I would be very happy if people would read more Australian literature. We have a very rich tapestry of works to choose from in nearly all of the main genres. With authors such as Bryce Courtney, Patrick White, Tim Winton, Thomas Keneally, David Malouf, Miles Franklin, John Marsden, Mem Fox, Jackie French, Colleen McCullough, Sara Douglas, Sean Williams, Shane Dix and Colin Thiele, readers have no lack of quality Australian literature to keep them entertained.
However, if I had to choose just one author that people ought to read more, it would be award-winning Australian fantasy author Garth Nix. Born in Melbourne, Victoria and raised in Canberra, Nix travelled extensively before finally settling with his family in Sydney Australia.
Best known for his young adult series’ The Old Kingdom (also known as the Abhorsen Trilogy), The Seventh Tower and The Keys to the Kingdom, Garth has also written several stand-alone novels, the Very Clever Baby series and a number of scenarios and articles for the role-playing field. More than five million copies of his books have been sold around the world, his books have appeared on the bestseller lists of The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, The Guardian and The Australian, and his work has been translated into 37 languages.
If you are a fan of fantasy fiction or Australian Literature, or if you are willing to take a journey into these two genres, Garth Nix is one author that I would highly recommend reading.
