Around five years ago, I completed a book challenge, which I originally found at Blogs-Of-A-Bookaholic. Basically, the idea was to post every day for 30 days, with a set theme for each day. I had fun participating in that challenge, and a fair bit of time has passed since then, so I figure it’s about time to complete another one. Rather than looking up another book challenge, however, I decided it might be nice to do something a little different. My challenge is still related to reading but, instead of blogging about books, I (and anyone else who chooses to participate) will be blogging about fan-fiction.
So, what are the rules?
Rule Number 1: Have fun!
Rule Number 2: There is no specific start date. You can participate in this challenge whenever you like. It doesn’t matter if you start today, tomorrow, next week or ten years from now.
Rule Number 3: Regardless of when you start, the challenge is to blog for 30 consecutive days.
Rule Number 4: Each day has a specific theme to blog about. The themes are listed below.
Rule Number 5: Ok, this isn’t an actual rule, but feel free to let me know if you participate so I can check out your answers. Oh, and did I forget to mention, have fun?
You’ve now read the rules (you have read the rules, haven’t you?). After giving it some thought, you’ve decided to participate in the challenge, but you aren’t sure exactly what you’re meant to be blogging about. Well, you’ve come to the right place. Below is a list of daily themes for you to blog about. Remember, this is a fanfic challenge, so each day’s theme is related to fan-fiction.
Anyway, without further ado, here is the list:
DAY 1. – Favourite fandom.
DAY 2. – Favourite character that is developed in fan-fiction but barely mentioned in the source material.
DAY 3. – The longest story/series of stories you’ve read.
DAY 4. – Favourite crossover fandom.
DAY 5. – Story you like better than the source material.
DAY 6. – Story you’ve read the most number of times.
DAY 7. – Favourite canon pairing.
DAY 8. – Favourite non-canon pairing using canon characters.
DAY 9. – Favourite LGBTQI pairing using canon characters.
DAY 10. – A story you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving.
DAY 11. – Favourite crossover pairing.
DAY 12. – A book/movie/game you sought out for the first time after reading a good fan-fiction.
DAY 13. – A popular fan-fiction trope that you strongly dislike.
DAY 14. – A story that made you cry.
DAY 15. – Favourite story series.
DAY 16. – Favourite short story (1,500 words or less).
DAY 17. – Favourite fanfic author.
DAY 18. – Over-used trope that you love to read anyway.
DAY 19. – Favourite medium length story (1,501 – 5,000 words).
DAY 20. – Favourite long story (5,001 words or more).
DAY 21. – Fandom you haven’t read but might one day.
DAY 22. – Least favourite plot device used in too many stories you otherwise enjoyed.
DAY 23. – Best story you read for the first time in the last twelve months.
DAY 24. – Head-canon you’ve accepted that is not supported by, or directly contradicts, canon.
DAY 25. – Head-canon you’ve accepted that, while not necessarily supported by canon, isn’t contradicted by canon either.
DAY 26. – Story that made you laugh out loud.
DAY 27. – Story you wish someone would write.
DAY 28. – Favourite quote from a fan-fiction.
DAY 29. – An unusual pairing or trope you didn’t think would work but turned out well.
DAY 30. – A WIP that you constantly check for updates.
A fairly comprehensive list, I’m sure you’ll agree. I will begin posting tomorrow and, if all goes well, finish in 30 days time. Hopefully, by then, I will also be ready to resume my normal blogging schedule.
If you choose to participate, have fun! If not, then I hope you enjoy reading my posts and, who knows, maybe you’ll even come across a story you haven’t read yet but feel you might enjoy. Either way, feel free to comment in the box below.
