Hey all. I’m finally back after my long absence. The last time you all heard from me, I was getting ready for my flight to Adelaide. I had intended to post before now, but every time I planned time to do so, something else came along needing attention.
As you can tell, my children and I made it here safely. It’s been great seeing Mum and Jess & Paul, though Jess and Paul are off adventuring (is that a word? Well, if it wasn’t already, it is now!). Adelaide is a lovely place to live and I like most aspects better than Sydney, though I do miss the beaches, the harbour and the quality and variety of foods in Sydney.
The first several months after arriving were spent navigating bureaucracy as I organised South Australian Identification, Centrelink, a Job Network Provider, school for the kids — all the fun stuff one has to deal with after a big move, as well as actually attempting to find work. Unfortunately, despite months of applying for work, no job materialised. I just don’t have the skills or experience to make me attractive to prospective employers.
It was at this point that I decided to apply for the University of Adelaide’s University Preparatory Program. Fortunately I was accepted and I am just completing my first semester. We are officially on our between-semester break right now and classes have finished, but my final assessment is not due until this coming Wednesday, so I don’t class myself as being on holidays yet.
Attending University has been a learning curve. I have particularly struggled with time management, which is the main reason I have neglected my poor blog. However, I think I’m getting a handle on it, so I hope to do better in the future. Just to be on the safe side, though, I’m going to draft up a bunch of posts during my break so I can keep to my usual blogging schedule without using up too much of my study time.
That’s all for now folks. I just wanted to touch base, explain my absence, and state my intentions to resume blogging from this coming Monday.
