Hi folks,
I just realised I haven’t posted for Miscellaneous Monday this week, so here it is, belated, but present nonetheless.
During week 12 of ‘Writing Apocalypse, we were asked to read Mary Karr’s Disappointments of the Apocalypse, then come up with our own ‘Disappointments of the Apocalypse’ poem. Here is my attempt. As usual, it’s raw, unedited, and hastily written in the allotted time.
The apocalypse was supposed to be spectacular
a nuclear war
a supervolcano
a great plague
an invasion from Mars.
The apocalypse was supposed to be savage
raids
rape
cannibalism
slavery.
The apocalypse was supposed to be sudden
months
weeks
days
hours.
The apocalypse wasn’t supposed to be a sedate stroll into oblivion
this gentle deceleration
unnoticed
unheeded
until the last
soft
sigh.
The apocalypse wasn’t meant to be mundane.
